Its lead products in development include NicVAX, a nicotine conjugate and investigational vaccine for the treatment of nicotine addiction and prevention of smoking relapse; and StaphVAX, a Staphylococcus aureus and pentavalent vaccine, which is designed to prevent S.aureus infections, including those infections caused by antibiotic-resistant strains of S.aureus. The company also has a manufacturing services agreement with Biotest Pharmaceuticals Corporation, which enables it to obtain clinical lots of its retained products, as well as component products from Biotest. It has strategic alliances with National Institutes of Health to use their patented conjugation process to manufacture vaccines against staphylococcal infections, including StaphVAX; University of Maryland to use the patented ring-expanded nucleosides and nucleotides for use in humans; and a right of first refusal and right of first negotiation agreement with Biotest to obtain rights to utilize StaphVAX and to license certain StaphVAX intellectual property for the manufacture or use of Altastaph, a development stage biologic product.
