GTx, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, engages in the discovery, development, and commercialization of small molecules to treat cancer, osteoporosis and bone loss, muscle wasting, and other serious medical conditions in the United States. It markets FARESTON tablets for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer in postmenopausal women through wholesale drug distributors. The company’s product candidate in clinical development includes ACAPODENE, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, which is in pivotal Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of multiple serious side effects of androgen deprivation therapy for advanced prostate cancer; and for the prevention of prostate cancer in high risk men with precancerous prostate lesions called high grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN). It also develops Ostarine, a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM); and GTx-838 for the treatment of various indications associated with muscle wasting and bone loss, including frailty, sarcopenia, cancer cachexia, osteoporosis, and chronic kidney disease muscle wasting. In addition, GTx’s preclinical pipeline includes GTx-758, an oral luteinizing hormone inhibitor for the treatment of advanced prostate cancer; and GTx-878, an estrogen receptor beta agonist for benign prostatic hyperplasia. It has collaborations with Hybritech, Inc.; diaDexus, Inc.; MacroArray Technologies, LLC; Onconome, Inc.; and Gen-Probe, Incorporated to develop an accurate blood or urine test to detect high grade PIN. GTx also has a research and development, and strategic collaboration with Merck & Co., Inc. for the development of SARMs. The company was founded in 1997 and is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee.
