Talecris to invest $268.7 million and get state and local help for expanding NC plant

NEW YORK (AP) -- Biotechnology manufacturer Talecris Biotherapeutics said Friday it will spend $268.7 million and get state and local incentives to expand a plant in Clayton, N.C.

The facility makes protein therapies used to treat immune deficiencies, hemophilia and other disorders.

The state of North Carolina has given the company a $250,000 grant, and a state economic-growth panel voted Friday to award a grant, the company said.

Talecris said the project would create 259 new jobs over seven years.

The company employs about 4,700 people worldwide and more than 1,800 in Johnston County, N.C. It is headquartered in Research Triangle Park, N.C.
